DIY Giant Lollipops Holiday Decor for a Candyland Display

There’s something wonderfully playful about oversized candy decorations, especially when they’re big enough to turn an ordinary space to a colorful Candyland scene. If you love decorating for the holidays but want something different from the usual ornaments and garlands, DIY giant lollipops holiday decor is a fun way to bring that cheerful, larger-than-life feeling into your display.

What I like about this project is that the main materials are surprisingly simple. For each giant lollipop, you will need about two standard-size foam pool noodles (around 55 inches each), one roll of colorful duct tape for wrapping, a length of white PVC pipe (about 4 to 5 feet long) for the stick, and a sheet of clear cellophane big enough to wrap the spiral candy top.

You may also want a few feet of ribbon for each lollipop, along with hot glue for assembly. With just these basic supplies, you can create giant lollipops that stand about five feet tall.

They make an eye-catching addition to a candy-themed celebration or a holiday display inspired by a whimsical Lollipop Woods setting.

DIY Giant Lollipops Made with Colorful Pool Noodles

Foam pool noodles might not be the first thing that comes to mind when planning holiday decorations, but their flexible shape makes them a clever material for oversized candy designs.

The idea is to transform colorful pool noodles into large, round lollipop spirals. Start by gently bending one pool noodle into a loose coil, layering the noodle over itself to form a spiral shape. Secure the beginning of the noodle with hot glue, and continue gluing small sections as you go to hold the shape in place.

For an extra-big lollipop, you can attach the second noodle to the end of the first using more glue or duct tape, then continue coiling. Make sure the spirals are flat and even as you work.

Once they’re shaped into those familiar candy swirls, colorful duct tape helps create the fun appearance that makes these decorations stand out.

I especially like how the combination of different colors can make each lollipop feel a little different while still keeping the overall display coordinated. You can work with a few repeating colors or use a more vivid assortment for that cheerful Candyland look.

The project uses hot glue and white PVC pipe as part of the construction. Once you have finished coiling and securing the spiral candy top, carefully align the bottom center of the spiral with the top end of the PVC pipe. Apply a generous amount of hot glue to the spot where the spiral and the pipe meet, pressing them together firmly until the glue sets.

For extra stability, you can further secure the connection by wrapping a few layers of colorful duct tape around the base where the spiral meets the pipe. This helps the lollipop top stay firmly attached to the stick, giving the finished decoration the recognizable proportions of a giant lollipop.

Since these decorations can reach around five feet tall, it’s worth thinking about where they’ll stand before you begin assembling them. Choose a space with enough height and room around the decorations so the oversized candy shapes can be appreciated without crowding the area.

For extra stability, especially if you plan to display them outside or in busy traffic areas, consider anchoring the PVC pipe sticks by inserting them into weighted bases such as buckets filled with sand or pebbles. You can also drive the bottom of the pipe into the ground for outdoor displays or attach the base to a sturdy wooden platform.

If your lollipops are placed on a hard surface, using adhesive strips or securing them with wire ties to nearby fixtures can help prevent them from tipping over and ensure the decorations stay safely in place.

For the finishing touch, wrap the lollipop tops in clear cellophane, just like individually wrapped candy. The transparent material allows the colorful spirals to remain visible while giving the decorations that familiar sweet-shop appearance.

Gather the cellophane neatly near the base of the candy shape and finish it with a colorful ribbon bow. This small detail makes a surprisingly big difference because it helps the foam decoration resemble an enormous piece of wrapped candy rather than simply a colorful spiral.

One of the most charming ways to use these giant lollipops is to arrange several together as a Candyland-inspired Lollipop Woods display. Their exaggerated height gives the setting a playful, storybook quality, especially when the decorations are viewed from a child’s perspective.

For a holiday setup at home, I would keep the surrounding decorations fairly simple so the colorful candy spirals remain the main attraction. Leave enough space between the lollipops to show off their individual shapes, and make sure the tall decorations are securely supported so they can’t easily tip over.

If you’re using these decorations around children, keep the hot glue tools out of reach during construction and check that the finished pieces are stable before displaying them.

Bring a Little Candyland Magic to Your Holiday Decor

Sometimes the decorations that make the biggest impression are made from the simplest materials. These giant pool noodle lollipops are a lovely example of how a little creativity can turn everyday supplies into something festive and memorable.

Whether you’re recreating a colorful Lollipop Woods scene or adding a candy-inspired touch to your holiday decorations, the combination of oversized spirals, clear wrapping, and bright ribbon bows brings plenty of personality to the display.

I’d start with one giant lollipop to get comfortable with the shape and materials, then make a few more if the space allows. That way, you can build a cheerful candy-themed arrangement that fits your home without making the decorating process come across as overwhelming.
